Faced with ‘painter’s block’ when trying to paint an entire building an art student was told to focus on a single brick.
Her creativity and inspiration returned and she finished the whole building.
Studies show that faced with too many choices – in this case choices of what to start to work on first, how to approach etc, our brains simply ‘freeze’.
Think deer in the headlights.
The answer is to help our brains out by removing the choice overload and picking just one thing (almost anything) to focus on and deal with that. This allows your brain to get back to work.
So: faced with a massive project pick one small thing you can do right now, focus on that and forget the rest.
Your brain will come roaring back to life, and you should be good to go!
